Typography in the web used to be limited to default fonts that were common to both PCs and MACs. Sure I love Helvetica and Georgia, but a little more variety wouldn’t hurt. Before @font-face and siFR, you can just cut up parts of the design and serve typography as images. This just makes your website less SEO-friendly and might take a little more time to load. I’ve also CuFon and some other cool font scripting, but they too had their limitations. Some are not compatible mobile browsers, you can’t select them, you can’t click on them – just to name a few. So here comes a solution! Finally!
Typekit is a simple add-on to your site that allows the use of custom fonts. They have hundreds in their library. It’s simple, light-weight, and compatible to most browsers including the iphone/ipad. They have free fonts that you can use - you just have to put their logo on the bottom. Their pricing plans start at $25.00 per month and it’s a pretty good deal for the service they provide.
