A Conversation about Conservation

It's always good to save money and save the environment at the same time. There are so many ways, life-hacks, and things we can do. Please share.

Saving Electricity
  1. ENERGY STARĀ® - When buying light bulbs, home appliances, electronics, and other products, look for the ENERGY STAR label.
  2. Smart Sockets - These "smart" outlets are perfect for your home theater system. When you turn off your TV, this outlet turns off the other devices connected to it. In your case, it could be a cable box, speaker system, DVD, or game console.
  3. LED Light Bulbs - These bulbs use less power and typically last about 50x longer than halogen lamps.
  4. Motion Sensor Switches - Perfect for bathrooms, closets, laundry rooms. Save on electricity by making sure the lights are off when no one is using the rooms. Alternatively, there are socket versions of this, click here.
Saving Water
  1. Faucet Aerator - Install an aerator in your faucets. Basically, it mixes air bubbled with your water so you use less water without losing pressure. Also consider using "low flow" water fixtures, click here.
Saving on Home Heating (Gas)
  1. Indoor AC Unit Covers - Covering cracks and leaks in your home is important. Make sure you also seal your AC Units to prevent heat from coming out and the cold from coming in.
  2. Use the sun, let the light in by opening your window shades.
Saving on Home Cooling (AC)
  1. Block the sun, to keep your home cool.
  2. Close open windows, vents, doors, and exhausts when the AC is on.
